Experience the Joy of Music This Holiday Season
The holiday season is a time of togetherness, joy, and cherished traditions, and what better way to celebrate than through music? The Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC) is set to delight audiences at their annual winter concerts with a blend of holiday carols and seasonal songs. This talent-rich ensemble, which includes over 500 young choristers aged 6 to 18, invites you to gather with family and friends for a heartwarming experience filled with the sounds of the season.
Inspiring Young Talent and Building Community
Founded in 1986 by Rebecca Thompson and Stephanie Mowery, LACC has grown into one of the world's premier children's choirs under the leadership of Artistic Director Fernando Malvar-Ruiz. The joy of singing and performing doesn't just cultivate musical skills; it fosters a sense of belonging and emotional connection among its members. “Every time I wake up and have rehearsal, it’s a happy day for me,” says Malvar-Ruiz, expressing the supportive culture that surrounds the chorus where parents, staff, and children unite to create lasting memories.
A Diverse Musical Program to Share with Everyone
This year’s concert features an exciting array of songs, including Donald Fraser’s “This Christmastide,” Edward Elgar’s “The Snow,” and selections from Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio.” Each performance promises something special, such as the thrilling “Stars” by Ēriks Ešenvalds, which incorporates the enchanting sounds of tuned wine glasses. Malvar-Ruiz is passionate about diversity in the program, stating, “I always try to create a good mix of styles so every winter concert features a wide variety of music.” This ensures that every winter concert is fresh, engaging, and accessible for a wide audience.
A Tribute to Musical Inspirations
Not only does the LACC inspire audiences, but it has also nurtured talented performers like Grammy and Oscar-winning singer Billie Eilish, who spent formative years with the chorus. Eilish's connection to the LACC remains strong; she often expresses gratitude for her musical upbringing and the profound influence it had on her artistry. This lineage of inspiration underscores LACC's mission to foster the love of choral music among children, guiding them through both performance and personal growth.
Contribute to the Local Arts Scene
Attending an LACC concert is not just an enjoyable evening — it’s an investment in the future of the arts in our community. By supporting and nurturing young talent, you actively contribute to a vibrant cultural landscape. The performances take place in the stunning settings of Pasadena, with individual concerts scheduled at First United Methodist Church on December 6 and Pasadena Presbyterian Church on December 7. Later in the month, the Chorus will appear at the Pasadena Symphony’s holiday candlelight concerts, offering even more festive tunes.
Immerse Yourself in the Holiday Spirit
These concerts promise to be a magical part of the holiday season. Audiences will enjoy popular pieces like “The Christmas Song” and additional favorites performed by LACC alongside other local choruses, wrapped in the glow of candlelight. With tickets selling out quickly, it’s a great opportunity to gather your loved ones for an enchanting evening that celebrates music, community, and the spirit of the season.
